Factors that influence the cost of dog training
June 15, 2024I firmly believe that every one of us is here for a reason, with a specific purpose. As the great Elvis Presley once said, “The world is a stage, and everyone has a part to play.” My role, I feel, is to be a dog’s best friend and to help those who don’t fully understand them foster better relationships. I want people to enjoy the company of their dogs and build a lifelong bond, sharing a beautiful life together.
In my family, dogs have always been a part of our lives, even before I was born—one could say that the dogs came before me. My first dog, a black Great Dane named Allan, was gifted to our family following the untimely passing of my father. After training Allan, he went on to win numerous obedience trials in the I.N.K.C. shows, and I personally handled him in every ring where he competed. This dog taught me invaluable lessons about the bond between humans and dogs. Although I lost him in 1999, he remains the foundation of my journey.
That same year, I moved to the U.S. for work. During my vacations back home, I frequently attended dog shows, observing trainers as they handled their dogs. What I saw was disturbing—unprofessional behavior, where trainers would mistreat and cause discomfort to the dogs, while the owners, obsessed with results, turned a blind eye. These experiences ignited a passion within me to bring about change. I decided to quit my job and dedicate myself to showing people the right way to train and connect with their dogs. Some may have considered this a mistake, but I believe that if you don’t pursue what you’re naturally meant for, no amount of money will ever satisfy you. You can learn how to train dogs, but true understanding must come from a place of genuine love, care, and empathy.
It’s wonderful to train your dog and enter them in shows, but it’s heartbreaking when dogs suffer if they don’t meet the expectations placed on them—whether through mistreatment by trainers or disappointment from owners. Where does the saying, “It’s not about winning, but about participating” stand in these situations? Winning is never guaranteed; there are many factors involved, including the bond between dog and handler, the dog’s focus, and the judge’s personal preferences. Additionally, some clubs may give the top prizes to their own committee members. So, if things don’t go as planned, please don’t blame your dog.
Lastly, remember that bringing a dog into your home is a responsibility, much like caring for a child or elderly parents. Dogs depend on you for their basic needs—tender loving care (TLC), food, and water. It’s essential to recognize this commitment and provide them with the love and attention they deserve.
One year of your dog’s life is sixteen, when compared to human’s .The second is nine and every year after that is five. ! Discipline first then love, in other words firm love in the first two years is a key to having a happy life with your beloved dog!!
I tend to prefer male puppies to female “that’s what most would say” .But it is much better to have a female dog. As I have mentioned their age factor above, Female dogs are much calmer after their first period, whereas the male at this age starts showing dominance [male ego].It is the same as human behavior .Thus making it much better for first time owners to have a female dog.
Most of our today’s so called pure breeds are man made, for different purposes in the countries of their origins. And are best suited for working in those countries ,In our country the best all purpose working dog would be are local dogs [stray dogs].. Yes some of you may wonder why I say this! None of our pure breeds can withstand our weather like them [strays dogs].And they are as smart as any other breed!!
